FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Orlando, FL September 23, 2011 - New York-based Vision Monday, a well-known vision care publication, has honored Eola Eyes as an innovative optical retailer and recipient of one of the first annual Design and Retail Excellence (D.A.R.E.) awards.
A panel of esteemed Vision Monday judges selected Eola Eyes for the “Seeing Green” award, which was given for the “most daring eco-achievement.” “Eola Eyes is dedicated to being responsible and eco-friendly for our community and the environment, and it is a great honor to be recognized for these efforts,” says Dr. Kerry Giedd.
In 2010, Eola Eyes took a mid-century building and completely renovated it to make it an ecologically friendly building from the ground up, literally. The flooring is made from sustainable bamboo. The front wall of the store is lined with double pane low-e windows and solar shades interiorly to reduce energy usage. “Green” IceStone countertops are not only a design highlight, but are made from 100% recycled glass and concrete. The ceiling lights are energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs, and the acoustic “whisper wave” baffles reduce excessive noise pollution throughout the showroom. The building’s lighting system is on a programmable electrical box and most rooms have motion sensors to reduce electrical usage when they are unoccupied. Finally, the building has a state-of-the-art air conditioning system to achieve a cool, comfortable, eco-conscious showroom.
“Every step we take to grow our business is treated with respect for the environment. From choices of construction materials to installing a bike rack, recycling office supplies, communicating electronically, and using recycled paper shopping bags, we continually try to foster and promote an eco-conscious business model,” says Dr. Brighid Williams.
Eola Eyes was the only retailer in the nation to be recognized by the Vision Monday judges in two award categories. In addition to receiving the “Seeing Green” award, Eola Eyes was also nominated for the “We the People” reader’s vote award. Nominees for this award were considered to be “truly exceptional entries” across a variety of award categories.
